What does a typical day look like for you?
My role is incredibly varied. As I have an assistant role, I’m around to help out different members of the team with whatever they need, week to week.
Being involved with the production of projects really helps me with marketing tasks. I am often involved in project meetings, which means I get first-hand information, which helps with writing case studies. I’m also involved in general office support which includes preparing the office for upcoming birthday celebrations and events or helping make payments to suppliers and charity commitments.
Alongside my role, I’m also gaining a Level 3 qualification in Digital Marketing so some days of the week I’m studying and building on my portfolio. Doing this has allowed me to focus on learning new skills and then using these at Buff. For example, promoting our socials using paid ads, managing our marketing calendar and developing my understanding of SEO practices to help optimise pages on our website.
How did you get into this field?
I studied Events Management at Arts University Bournemouth, where I gravitated towards branding and marketing roles. I worked on developing my skills in creating effective marketing campaigns for events. I also really enjoyed the project management side of events management - as I developed skills in time management and organisation.
When I finished uni I was pretty certain that I wanted to go into the marketing industry, so I asked around my local area and I ended up doing some unpaid work experience at a local marketing agency. I felt this would help me to see if this was the right industry for me whilst gaining relevant experience. And I really enjoyed it! Especially writing blogs and creating & scheduling socials for brands.
I continued working and gaining as much marketing and production experience as possible when I returned to my home town, Brighton. Fast forward to today and I landed the position of Marketing & Production Assistant here at Buff!
What were the key things you were looking for in a role or company when you applied for the job at Buff?
When searching for a job, for me, it ultimately came down to looking for somewhere that I would enjoy being. Buff just seemed like a great place to apply for, as they prioritise company culture, including staff wellbeing and personal development. I was also initially attracted to Buff's positive impact and do-good ethos.
Buff has such a strong focus on development and I knew I wanted to have a marketing role but I didn't have much industry experience so it seemed like a great fit. The team at Buff have been really supportive and are happy with me learning on the job as I complete my apprenticeship.
