We have some HUGE news… We are now a Certified B Corp!
Since day one, we’ve focused our efforts on building a studio where talented people are supported to grow and create great work that matters - together. In the last 10 years, we’ve worked hard to make sure that we create real value for our team, our clients and our communities; both local to our studio and in the motion world.
All that is easy to say though, right? And that is what kickstarted our B Corp journey. We see B Corp as shorthand to communicate that these are not just words. But lots of tiny actions, methodologies and ways of working that demonstrate our ethos as a business.
There are some divided opinions on being B Corp and the process, but it’s safe to say that the intention behind it is solid. It’s a framework that allows companies to measure what and how they’re doing to create a positive impact for more than shareholders alone.
Anyone who has been through the process will know that it’s no mean feat to reach the 80-point threshold to certify. We’re incredibly proud to have certified with a score of 91.3! All thanks to the hard work and dedication of our team.
How is it measured?
B Lab (the nonprofit network behind B Corp) uses a tool called the B Impact Assessment (BIA) which is broken down into 5 sections: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. Plus a potential Impact Business Model if your business demonstrates a specific positive outcome for one of its stakeholders (such as workers, community, environment, or customers).
Here’s some insight into our score. We’ll be sharing more about what this looks like in practice in our 2024 Impact Report.
So what now?
This is a big milestone for us and represents the start of the next phase of Buff. It’s another opportunity for us to ‘reflect and improve’ so that when we re-certify in 3 years, we can report more positive impact for our team, clients, community and planet.
B Lab is continually evolving its tools and strategies for measuring impact and we know that when we come to re-certify, it will be against new standards which aim to advance the B Corp movement. “As the climate crisis intensifies and societal inequality grows, the need to bring about systemic change is clear. We must advance the standards for B Corp Certification to meet the magnitude of the challenge ahead.” B Lab.
For now, we’re thrilled to have joined the B Corp movement. We're looking forward to contributing to the already stellar B Corp community and sharing what we can to support other businesses to achieve certification.
